Why wroom is free

wroom is free for almost everyone. No subscriptions for normal trips. Here’s our honest pricing philosophy.

The honest answer

wroom is free.

For most people, on most trips, forever-style free. Not free-with-a-gotcha. Not free until day three. Free because a group trip tool that only works after everyone pays is dead on arrival.

Why free matters for group apps

If one friend pays for a planning tool and five don’t, the group doesn’t use the tool. They fall back to WhatsApp.

So we made a simple rule:

The core trip room — plan, map, meetup, expenses, essentials, offline pack — stays free for regular use.

No one should have to ask the group “can we all subscribe before Manali?”

What “free for most cases” means

You can:

  • Create trips
  • Invite friends
  • Build a shared itinerary
  • Use the live group map
  • Split expenses
  • Find nearby essentials
  • Keep an offline trip pack

That’s the product. That’s free.

Then what’s the optional subscription?

Some people use wroom a *lot* — many trips a year, big groups, heavy use of the live tools. For those yearly power users, there may be a subscription later that supports the heavy side of the product (servers, maps, places data, ongoing development).

Important bits:

  • Most users will never need it
  • It’s not a paywall for basic group trips
  • It’s for people who basically run their travel life on wroom

Think of it like: free for the weekend squad, optional support for the people living on the road all year.

Why we’re saying this out loud

A lot of apps say “free” and mean “free until you’re hooked.” We’re saying the opposite on purpose:

  1. Group tools only work if everyone can join
  2. Trust is part of the product
  3. We’d rather earn a small optional subscription from heavy users than nickel-and-dime every chai stop

How we’ll keep the lights on

In order of preference:

  1. Stay lean
  2. Optional yearly plan for heavy users
  3. Maybe tips/support later — never ads that sell your trip behavior

No selling location history. No dark patterns to unlock “who paid.”

The bottom line

  • Free for normal trips
  • Free for friend groups
  • Optional subscription only if you use wroom a lot, year-round

If that ever changes in a way that hurts regular groups, we’ll say so clearly — on this blog, not buried in a settings screen.

Go make a trip. Bring your friends. Don’t bring your wallet first.
